Our commitment

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines come from the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). In plain terms, they ask that a site can be seen, heard, used with a keyboard and understood by as many people as possible.

Many people reach us while they are stressed and reading on a phone. Good accessibility helps them too. Clear headings, readable text and simple forms make a hard moment a little easier.

What we build in

  • A “Skip to content” link at the top of every page, for keyboard and screen reader users
  • A visible outline that shows where you are when you move through the page with a keyboard
  • Labels on every field in our contact form
  • Text descriptions (alt text) on our photos
  • Headings in a logical order, so pages make sense when read aloud
  • Plain language, around an 8th-grade reading level, with abbreviations explained
  • Real text instead of text inside images, so it can be resized and read by assistive tools

We work toward the WCAG 2.1 AA color contrast and layout guidance as we add pages. Accessibility is ongoing work, not a box we check once.

Known limits

Some links on our pages go to other websites, such as FindTreatment.gov or Florida state agency sites. We can’t control how accessible those sites are. If one gives you trouble, let us know and we will look for another way to share the same information.

Report an accessibility problem

If something on this site is hard to see, hear, reach or use, please tell us through the contact page. These details help us find and fix it:

  • The page address, or the name of the page
  • What you were trying to do
  • What happened instead
  • The device, browser and any assistive technology you use, such as a screen reader

If the form itself is the problem, a friend or family member can send the message for you. We treat accessibility reports the same way we treat corrections: we check them and fix what we can.

If you need help for a loved one tonight, you don’t need to wait on us. In an emergency, call 911. For a crisis, call or text 988.
