Rehab Near Jacksonville Beach: What Beaches Families Should Know

Jacksonville Beach is its own city, but it is still part of Duval County. Here is how care works from the Beaches, and how to decide between staying close and going farther.

Emergency: call 911 · Crisis: call or text 988

A separate city, the same county

Jacksonville Beach has its own city government, but it sits inside Duval County. For families, that means county and state services work the same here as in the rest of Jacksonville. Marchman Act petitions still go through the Duval County Clerk of Courts downtown, and the Florida Department of Health in Duval County (DOH-Duval) still serves you.

Getting around is simple. Beach Boulevard (US-90) and J. Turner Butler Boulevard (JTB) run west across the Intracoastal Waterway toward the Southside, where many programs are. A1A and 3rd Street run north to Neptune Beach and Atlantic Beach, and south to Ponte Vedra in St. Johns County.

Some programs are based at the Beaches themselves. The list below shows the ones we have checked.

If your loved one will go to sessions several times a week, time the drive once at the hour they start. Beach Boulevard and JTB can both back up at rush hour and on busy weekends.

Stay close, or get some distance?

Staying close can help when

  • Your loved one needs outpatient care or IOP and has to keep coming back
  • Family sessions are part of the plan and you want to be there
  • Your loved one already has a doctor or counselor they trust nearby

Some distance can help when

  • The friends, places and routines tied to their use are all right here
  • Your loved one wants a fresh start somewhere quieter
  • Residential care is the right level, so the drive happens only once or twice

This isn’t a choice to make alone. Ask the program and a doctor what they recommend, and match the level of care first.

Programs just over the county line

Ponte Vedra, in St. Johns County, starts just south of Jacksonville Beach along A1A. Some Beaches families look there too, or west across the Intracoastal to the Southside.

The same checks apply wherever you look: check the license with Florida DCF, ask your plan whether the program is in network, and ask how the program involves families. Court steps, like a Marchman Act, are handled by the county court where your loved one lives or is located, not where the program is.

Jacksonville Beach families ask

Is Jacksonville Beach part of Jacksonville?

It is its own city, but it is in Duval County. County court, health department and state-funded care through LSF Health Systems all apply to Jacksonville Beach residents.

Where do Beaches families file a Marchman Act?

With the Duval County Clerk of Courts, which handles petitions for the county. Read how to file a Marchman Act in Duval County for the current steps and phone number.

Can my loved one get detox at the Beaches?

Check the list above for detox programs in the 32250 ZIP code, and our detox centers directory for the rest of the city. A doctor can help decide whether inpatient or outpatient detox fits.

Is it a bad idea to go to rehab near home?

Not at all. Close to home works well for many people, especially in outpatient care. If home is full of triggers, a little distance may help. There is no single right answer.
