Baymeadows on the map
Baymeadows Road runs east and west between I-95 and the I-295 East Beltway, with Philips Highway and Southside Boulevard crossing it. The area blends into the Southside to the north and east, and into the San Jose Boulevard neighborhoods to the west. Pick a program with the daily drive in mind, because a schedule that works on paper can fall apart in rush-hour traffic.
That puts Baymeadows next door to many of the city’s programs. For a lot of people here, an outpatient or IOP session is a short drive from home or from the office. The harder question is often time, not distance.
Many people who live here also work nearby, so a session right after work may be realistic. Others commute out of the area each day, which can make evening sessions close to home the easier choice.
Treatment schedules and work, in general
| Typical schedule | What it can mean for a job | |
|---|---|---|
| PHP (partial hospitalization) | Most of the day, most weekdays, home at night | Usually means time off work for a few weeks |
| IOP (intensive outpatient) | Several sessions a week, a few hours each; some programs meet in the evening | Often possible with a changed schedule or some leave |
| Outpatient counseling | About one or two sessions a week | Usually fits around a regular job |
| Medication for opioid use disorder | Regular visits to a clinic or prescriber | Ask about early or late clinic hours |
Protecting the job
Fear of losing a job keeps many people from saying yes to care. A few things help:
- Federal leave. The U.S. Department of Labor says the FMLA gives eligible employees up to 12 workweeks of job-protected leave in a year for a serious health condition, which may include substance use treatment. Read can I lose my job for going to rehab?.
- An employee assistance program (EAP). Many employers offer one. It is usually free and confidential, and it can help with a referral. Check the benefits portal or ask HR.
- Intermittent leave. The Department of Labor says FMLA leave can be taken in pieces when medically necessary, which can fit an IOP schedule.
- Talk to HR, not just a manager. Many people share details only with HR.
- Keep a paper trail. Write down the date of every talk with HR and keep copies of each form you send or sign.
If you are the spouse or parent, you may be able to take FMLA leave too, to care for a covered family member in treatment. Ask your own HR office.

Baymeadows families ask
Can my loved one go to rehab and keep their job?
Often, yes. Outpatient care and many IOP schedules can work around a job, and federal law gives some workers job-protected leave for treatment. Our FMLA guide explains who is covered.
Will my loved one’s employer find out?
Health plans and programs have privacy rules, and substance use treatment records have extra federal privacy protection. Medical leave paperwork usually goes to HR. Ask the program and HR how information is shared.
Is PHP worth taking time off for?
If a doctor or an assessment says PHP is the right level, often yes. It gives much more support than weekly counseling while your loved one still sleeps at home. Ask how long it usually lasts and when the step down to IOP happens.
Does insurance through work cover rehab?
Most job-based plans cover some substance use treatment, but the details vary. See does insurance cover rehab in Florida? for how to check.
